5 Things to Know About Laser Hair Removal

When you have unwanted hair, most of your options are bad ones. Shaving is inconvenient and can lead to cuts. Plucking and tweezing hurt. Waxing is excruciating.

Even laser hair removal used to be a painful option!

Fortunately, thanks to new technology, laser hair removal has become gentle and nearly pain-free. Here's everything you need to know about laser hair removal.

What is the most advanced form of laser hair removal?

The most up-to-date technology is GentleMax Pro. It includes a dynamic cooling skin that hits so quickly that many people don't feel any heat from the laser. When people feel any sensation, they describe it as something akin to feeling a rubber band snapping against their skin.

GentleMax Pro also delivers laser pulses faster than other systems, which means treatment takes a lot less time.

When do you lose your hair after a laser hair removal session

It's a misnomer to believe all your hair just falls out forever after a laser hair removal session. You must schedule a series of treatments four to six weeks apart. However, the destroyed hair follicles will typically release their hair three to five days after treatment.

Between sessions, the hair will grow back finer and lighter each time until it finally stops growing back at all. Note that you need to avoid sun exposure between each treatment.

Eventually, growth will stop altogether. Often, we can get this done after just three treatments, but everybody is different, and your needs may vary.

How can you prepare for a laser hair removal session?

You need to shave 24 hours before laser hair removal. You need to avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior to the treatment.

Both of these steps are extremely important. Avoiding sun exposure is the absolute most important step. This is because sun exposure causes your skin to become more sensitive to the light energy that the GentleMax Pro device is using.

Greater sensitivity means placing you at risk for skin damage, burns, or scarring.

Of course, it's usually not enough to just minimize outside time. We recommend using a high-SPF sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays and to cover up as much as possible. Just because your skin is tanned doesn't mean you haven't been exposed.

Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?

People with thick, dark hair are the best candidates. Laser hair removal doesn't work on gray, red, white, or very blonde hair. It also doesn't work on peach fuzz.

Why is lighter hair more of a problem? It's because it has less pigment. That means the laser beam can't differentiate between the pigment in the hair and the pigment in the surrounding skin. If the laser can't find the hair follicle, it can't damage it enough to make the difference you're hoping to see.

How long does modern laser hair removal last?

Eventually, if you schedule your treatments regularly and work closely with your aesthetician, you'll see permanent results. Most people need 6-12 treatments spaced 3-6 weeks apart to get the results they're looking for.

Most of those who are not satisfied with their hair removal results are unhappy precisely because they did not plan ahead or had unrealistic expectations about the procedure. Be sure to budget both the time and the money to complete a full course of treatment.
